## What it is

PupilBot is an adaptive study tool built around one promise: **you photograph what you're studying, and it turns each page into questions and quizzes you on them over time.**

Point your camera at handwritten notes, a textbook chapter, a handout or a few slides. PupilBot reads the text off the images, works out the topics in them, generates practice questions per topic, and then schedules reviews with spaced repetition — so each thing comes back right before you'd forget it.

It works on the studying you already have to do, not on a fixed catalog of courses. It is a study aid, not a tutor that teaches a syllabus, and it does not replace a teacher or a textbook.

## How it works

1. **Capture** — you photograph the pages you want to study. Capture is camera-first: it's about the specific pages you chose, not bulk PDF or link imports.
2. **Reading (OCR)** — the text is extracted from each image and concatenated into the material's context.
3. **Topics** — the distinct topics in the material are identified, each with an importance weight.
4. **Question generation** — questions are generated per topic, in whichever of the six formats fits what's being learned.
5. **Adaptive practice** — in a web session or a Telegram chat, questions are tuned to your current level: get things right and difficulty rises, struggle and it eases off and reinforces fundamentals. Written answers are judged by an LLM for meaning, not string-matched.
6. **Spaced-repetition review** — every answer updates your per-question schedule and per-topic mastery, and the question comes back when you'd be about to forget it. On Telegram, the bot pings you when reviews come due.

## Question formats

- **Single choice (scq)** — one correct option out of four.
- **Multiple choice (mcq)** — several correct options out of four or five.
- **Fill-in-the-blank (cloze)** — a sentence with a blank; answers judged for meaning, variants accepted.
- **Free-form** — open-ended recall, judged against a reference answer rather than matched literally.
- **Numeric** — a numeric answer within a stated tolerance.
- **Matching** — pair items across two columns.

The web app focuses on single- and multiple-choice questions; the Telegram bot also handles matching and the written formats.

There is **no Android app**; the web app works in Android browsers. You sign up with email + password, with Apple Sign-In, or as a guest. Telegram links to an existing account rather than being its own signup.
